The significant effect of a semicircle being made up of straight and curved lines.
The "Ai-DUAL 1/2-BALL Putter" lets you feel the difference from other models the moment you address the ball. The reason is the half-ball drawn on the front of the top surface of the head, as the name suggests. This is a new alignment feature introduced by Odyssey. Because it is a semicircle, with a straight front and a curved back, it is easier to feel the misalignment between the face and the ball when addressing the ball than with a perfect circle. By using the alignment line in the center to align with the ball's alignment, even more accurate setup is possible. In a field test conducted by the golf teams of two universities in the United States, a total of 52 people were surveyed with 1,060 putts. The results were very positive, showing improvements in face angle at address and stability in putting direction. Furthermore, it was found that putts from approximately 2 meters were 1.13 times more successful out of 10 attempts compared to conventional putters.
This insert not only provides consistent ball speed but also generates more forward spin.
The Ai-DUAL insert features a complex, winding shape at the boundary between the two resin layers, similar to the underside of the Ai-ONE insert. This design, developed by AI, focuses not only on the stable ball speed regardless of where the ball is struck, as seen in the Ai-ONE insert, but also on the spin imparted to the ball. Generally, due to the gear effect, a ball struck on the upper part of the face tends to have forward spin, while a strike on the lower part tends to have backspin. Naturally, this also affects the distance the ball rolls. The Ai-DUAL insert is designed to consistently impart forward spin regardless of where the ball is hit, whether on the upper or lower part of the face. Furthermore, because the lower part of the insert forms the same surface as the sole, the distinctive shape between the two resin layers, created by AI, can be seen more directly than in the Ai-ONE putter, which has a transparent polycarbonate window.
The grooves, which have an isosceles triangle-like cross-section, also contribute to the smooth rolling action due to forward spin.
The Ai-DUAL insert also features newly adopted grooves, the F.R.D (Forward Roll Design) grooves, which contribute to its smooth roll. Unlike the wave-like cross-section of the Ai-ONE insert, it has a unique shape consisting of a series of right-angled triangular indentations. The part that makes contact with the ball is angled at 19 degrees relative to the vertical.
The half ball (half of a ball) makes it easy to see any misalignment. A new type of circular alignment has been born.
Odyssey's circle-based alignment system introduces a completely new type. The new Ai-DUAL Half Ball putter uses a single ball cut in half, rather than lining up multiple balls like the 2-BALL. This was developed by AI with a focus on not only the performance of the Ai-ONE Insert, which stabilizes ball speed regardless of where the ball is hit, but also the spin imparted to the ball. The Ai-DUAL Insert is designed to generate stable forward spin (clockwise rotation) regardless of where the ball is hit, such as on the top or bottom of the face. ■The grooves, shaped like an isosceles triangle, also contribute to excellent forward spin and roll: The Ai-DUAL insert's newly adopted FRD (Forward Roll Design) grooves also contribute to excellent roll. ■Realizes a feel and sound closer to that of the WHITEHOT insert: The Ai-DUAL insert has been designed with even more consideration given to feel and sound. The Ai-DUAL insert is made entirely of urethane resin, so it has a softer feel and is designed to produce a sound closer to that of the WHITEHOT insert than the Ai-ONE insert. ■The lineup consists of three standard models.
