Founded in the United States in 1996, performance brand Under Armour has guided many athletes to improve their performance under its brand mission of "bringing about evolution." Founder Kevin Plank, a former college American football player, found the cotton T-shirts worn underneath protective gear to be heavy with sweat and uncomfortable, clinging to the body. He wanted to develop a functional alternative to cotton shirts. This desire led to the creation of the world's first body-hugging "compression wear." The company has now grown into one of the world's leading performance apparel brands.
The brand name Under Armour comes from the fact that the distinctive, body-hugging clothing is "armor worn under a uniform for athletes to fight in." The company offers apparel equipped with innovative technology for all athletes who want to become stronger and better than they are now.
