What is a golf fairway wood?
There are many different types of golf clubs, but they can be broadly divided into three categories: woods, irons, and putters. Woods are clubs that are primarily designed to achieve distance. Furthermore, among woods, any club other than the No. 1 wood (1W), commonly known as Driver, is called a fairway wood.
This club is used to hit the ball from the rough or fairway to get distance. Unlike Driver, which is designed to be hit from a tee, the driver is designed to be hit from a position where the ball is in contact with the ground.

Furthermore, the thicker sections at the toe and heel are further expanded to further lower the center of gravity. ■REBOUND FRAME: A four-layer structure with softer deflection areas and harder fulcrum areas, alternating. The synergistic effect with the "BiFLEX FACE" significantly improves ball speed. ■Lightweight Crown: The crown is made thinner and lighter. 「QUANTUM」フェアウェイウッドは、打ち出し角と打点位置の最適化をテーマに開発がスタート。前作「ELYTE」で採用された、ソール内部に浮かせて配置するスピードウェーブ構造をさらに進化。新形状スピードウェーブ2.0のネジ止め位置をヘッド後方に配置することで、フェース下部でのインパクト時でもたわみ量を増大し、ボールスピードのロスを最小限に抑制。高い打ち出しと安定した飛距離性能を実現しています。また、ロフト角とライ角の組み合わせのバリエーションが多い最新のアジャスタブルホーゼル「オプティフィット4」を採用し、ゴルファーひとりひとりの要望に合わせ、弾道を調整することができるようになりました。さらに、以前にも増して抜けが良くなったステップ・ソールデザインも導入。あらゆる方面で完成度が高まりました。
■第2世代に進化したスピードウェーブ。「QUANTUM」のフェアウェイウッドシリーズにおいて着目されたのが、前作のELYTEシリーズからヘッド内部に搭載されているスピードウェーブで、今回、スピードウェーブ2.0へと進化しました。ウェイトの総重量は変えずに、新たにトウ・ヒール方向の幅を狭くし、後方に長く伸ばすことで、その分、ねじ止めの位置を後方に配置。また、前端はフェースの裏面ギリギリまで前進させ、ソール内面から浮かせている高さも、可能な限り低く設計されました。これらによって、フェースカップ下部のヒンジ部分(L字に折れ曲がった部分)の長さを延ばすことが可能となり、フェース下部でのインパクト時でも、たわみ量を増大し、ボールスピードのロスを最小限に抑制。高い打ち出しと安定した飛距離性能を実現しています。また、浅重心設計で、インパクトでヘッドコントロールしやすくなっています。
■ロフト・ライ角の設定バリエーションが多いオプティフィット4をホーゼルに搭載。「QUANTUM」のフェアウェイウッドシリーズにおける前作からの大きな変化は、ホーゼル部分にもあります。今回から、ELYTEのユーティリティで初採用となったオプティフィット4と呼ばれるアジャスタブルホーゼルが搭載されました。従来のアジャスタブルホーゼルよりも、ロフト角とライ角の設定バリエーションが増えているもので、各々のゴルファーごとに好みの弾道を得られやすくするだけでなく、番手間の飛距離のギャップを、より適正なものに調整できるようにもなりました。
■ステップ・ソールデザインが三角型に。ELYTEのフェアウェイウッドシリーズで登場したステップ・ソールデザインが、ブラッシュアップ。前作では、ステップの中央部分が台形型をしていましたが、今回は三角型にチェンジ。アドレス時のヘッドの安定感はキープしつつ、よりソールの抜けの良さがアップしています。
■キャロウェイが培ってきたAI設計も継続導入。フェースには、キャロウェイが長年培ってきたAI設計(モデル・番手別専用設計)が導入されています。多くのゴルファーのリアルなスイングデータ、弾道データをインプットしながらAIが設計しているもので、フェースがインパクトでたわみやすくなった分、AI設計によるコントロールポイントがさらに強化され、弾道補正効果もこれまで以上に発揮されるようになりました。打点ごとに打ち出し角やスピン量などを最適化しつつ、安定したボールスピードを実現。より遠くの狭い着弾範囲へとボールを運んでくれます。
■【QUANTUM MAXフェアウェイウッド】シリーズにおいてスタンダードモデルの立ち位置となるのが、「QUANTUM MAX フェアウェイウッド」です。ヘッドはキャロウェイらしい丸いフォルムをしており、前作のELYTEフェアウェイウッドから形状を引き継いでいます。番手はW#3、W#3HL、W#5、W#7、Heaven、W#9、W#11の7種類を用意し、オプティフィット4ホーゼルはW#3、W#3HL、W#5に採用。クラウンは、W#3からHeavenまではカーボン素材で、以降はステンレススチール製となっています。
■【QUANTUM MAX Dフェアウェイウッド】「QUANTUM MAX Dフェアウェイウッド」は、高弾道ドローをやさしく打っていけるモデルです。ヘッドは前後長がやや長めでドローバイアスの特性となっており、シリーズのなかでもっとも体積が大きく、フェースもややディープに仕上げられています。番手はW#3、W#3HL、W#5、W#7の4種類を用意し、オプティフィット4ホーゼルはW#3、W#3HL、W#5に採用。W#3、W3HL、W#5はカーボンクラウンで、W#7はステンレススチール製クラウンとなっています。

The "ELYTE" fairway wood was developed with a focus not only on achieving a high level of balance between speed and forgiveness, but also on two major mishits that are particularly challenging with fairway woods. One is inconsistent impact points, and the Ai 10x FACE, which, like Driver, has 10 times more control points compared to the PARADYM Ai SMOKE MAX fairway wood, powerfully responds to various mishits. The other is impact at the bottom of the face. To ensure that the ball gets airborne and flies well even on topped shots, a tungsten speed wave is mounted slightly above the inside of the sole, and a new step sole design has been introduced, which creates a raised shape at the rear. The standard "ELYTE fairway wood" features Callaway's signature rounded look and a shallow face that makes it easy to pick up the ball.
