The CB12 WEDGE retains its shape and construction, but offers improved usability and performance!
The 2023 CB Wedge, designed for ultimate forgiveness, has been redesigned and released under the new name "CB12 Wedge." While retaining the best features of its popular predecessor—a larger head size for increased moment of inertia, a wide, chamfered sole, built-in urethane microspheres, and soft 431 stainless steel—the new wedge also boasts significant improvements. The key feature is the sharply angled 37V groove design. Like Callaway's flagship OPUS wedge, the groove volume has been reduced and the pitch narrowed, resulting in an increased number of grooves for improved spin and ball control. (54-60 degrees) The image color has been changed from the previous red to green, and two steel shafts with different weight ranges are available. Six lofts are available in 2-degree increments from 50 to 60 degrees.
The groove range has been standardized from the entire face.
The CB12 Wedge is the successor to the CB Wedge, which was released in 2023. The most notable change is the grooves on the face. Like the OPUS Wedge released last year, the volume of the sharply angled 37V grooves has been reduced, while the number of grooves has been increased by placing them on the face at a tighter pitch. This improves spin performance and control, especially from rough and wet lies. While the previous model had grooves running from the heel to the tip of the toe of the face, this model has a standard score line with some groove-free sections on the toe side, so it doesn't feel out of place.
■Large size provides a sense of security and resistance to mistakes
The head design remains largely unchanged from the previous model, which was well-received. Forgiveness is the top priority, with the larger size and cavity back face design providing a sense of security for the player, while the weight is distributed around the perimeter of the large contours, resulting in a very high moment of inertia. This model is extremely resistant to mishits. The head material also inherits the same 431 stainless steel as the previous model, which offers higher strength and softer characteristics. This wedge offers a comfortable feel.
■ Wide sole with chamfered edges on the front and back, and a large bounce
Along with its larger size, the sole is also a factor in the forgiveness of the CB12 wedge. The wide sole and large bounce allow it to glide over the turf even if you land a little short of the ball, and the leading and trailing edges are chamfered. This prevents the wedge from getting stuck in the turf while also providing good release, leading to a stable, nice approach.
■Urethane microspheres for a great feel
The previous model was the first single wedge to feature urethane microspheres, and they continue to be used in the CB12 wedge. By absorbing excess vibrations at impact, they deliver a soft feel to the player's hands, along with the soft 431 stainless steel head material mentioned above.
Six loft settings and two steel shafts available
The CB12 wedge is available in six lofts, ranging from 50 to 60 degrees in 2-degree increments. The bounce is 12 degrees for the 50, 52, 58, and 60 degrees, and 14 degrees for the 54 and 56 degrees. The head finish is chrome. Two steel shafts, manufactured by Nippon Shaft, are available in different weight ranges.
